North West Territories Nominee Program (NTNP)

The Nominee Program attracts competent people to fill key labor shortages and foster company growth, strengthening the economy of the Northwest Territories. The Nominee Program can help firms recruit and retain workers and can help foreign workers and their families in settling permanently in the Northwest Territories. In comparison to other immigration classifications, Citizenship and Immigration Canada's processing of a nominee's application for permanent residence is typically quicker. Final decisions on the applications are made by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

There are four categories:


The Skilled Worker Stream

This Stream of the NTNP employer Driven immigration program targets qualified foreigners who can effectively address the Northwest Territories' shortfall of skilled workers. Candidates who have obtained an employment offer in a skilled position (National Occupational Classification Skill Levels 0, A, or B) from an NWT firm are eligible to apply under this stream. Employers in the NWT must sponsor qualified applicants for permanent residency as this category is employer-driven.


Skilled Worker for Express Entry

Foreign nationals who have been approved into Citizenship and Immigration Canada's Express Entry Pool may apply through the Northwest Territories. This stream only accepts applicants who have been given an Express Entry Profile Number and a Job Seeker Validation Code after being approved into the Express Entry Pool.


Critical Impact Worker

This stream was established to help employers in the Northwest Territories (NWT) deal with pressing labour shortages that cannot be addressed by citizens of the region or Canada. The National Occupational Classification Skill Levels C and D, which are semi-skilled and unskilled occupations, are the target populations for this program. Foreign skilled employees must have held the same job for at least six months in order to apply under this stream, and they must also be in compliance with the terms of their temporary foreign worker permit.


Business Stream

The NTNP invites applications from business owners and/or entrepreneurs who want to start a company in the Northwest Territories under this stream. All types of businesses are encouraged to submit an application; however, priority is given to those who will launch a new product or one that will significantly benefit the Northwest Territories.
